Meet Donna

Donna Klein, M.A., OTR/L has spent more than 35 years helping children, families, educators, and therapists better understand and overcome developmental challenges. Through direct therapy, parent coaching, professional mentorship, workshops, and consultation, her mission remains the same: helping children build skills while helping professionals grow.

From Preschool Gym to Private Practice

After beginning her career in adult rehabilitation, Donna knew the next step was pediatrics. She began working for pediatric therapy practices before being hired by local preschool. While working in the preschool, she quickly developed a reputation for helping children make meaningful progress, and referrals grew through word-of-mouth from both parents and professionals.

As demand increased, Donna started a small private practice after hours in the gym of the same preschool and gradually recruited other therapists to join her. One experience remains especially memorable: when a child refused to enter the building, unable to be evaluated, by anyone on the team, Donna decided to meet the child where they were and completed the entire evaluation sitting on the floor in the hallway by the front entrance. It reinforced what she has always believed—meaningful progress begins with connection and meeting children where they are.

Building Westchester Therapy Solutions

What began as a small practice in a preschool gym eventually expanded to the basement of Donna's home, then to a small administrative office, a clinic, and ultimately Westchester Therapy Solutions. Along the way, she balanced raising two young sons while building a thriving practice.

What started with six therapists eventually grew into a multidisciplinary team of more than 70 occupational, physical, and speech therapists serving thousands of children and families throughout Westchester County. They provided services for Early Intervention, Preschool Services, School Contracts and private families. In 2023, Donna sold Westchester Therapy Solutions and remained involved during the transition to new ownership.

Helping Professionals Grow

One of the things that made Westchester Therapy Solutions unique was Donna's commitment to supporting therapists. She often hired new graduates and clinicians with limited pediatric experience because she recognized their potential and believed great therapists could be developed through mentorship, guidance, and encouragement.

She regularly led mentorship meetings, clinical discussion groups, and professional development workshops focused on sensory processing, emotional regulation, clinical reasoning, parent communication, treatment planning, therapist efficiency, and the day-to-day challenges clinicians face in practice. Over the years, she trained, supervised, and mentored hundreds of therapists and occupational therapy students.

One of the most rewarding parts of her career has been inspiring future therapists—including both her son and niece, who chose careers in occupational therapy.

Educating Families & Communities

Throughout her career, Donna has provided workshops and training programs for parents, educators, therapists, school districts, PTAs, SEPTAs, preschools, and community organizations. Topics have included behavioral interventions, sensory processing, emotional regulation, attention, social development, parenting strategies, learning, and her signature approach, The Proprioceptive Continuum™.

She has always believed that helping the adults around a child is one of the most powerful ways to support the child.

Creating Spaces That Inspire

Donna personally designed the Westchester Therapy Solutions clinic to be far more than a therapy gym. The space featured sensory-rich treatment areas, custom murals, calming family spaces, and an indoor pirate ship complete with a hidden play area below deck.

Her goal was to create a place where children loved to come, families felt supported, and therapists were inspired to do their best work. Since then, she has consulted with therapists and practice owners on how to create highly engaging therapy environments that maximize creativity and impact without requiring a large budget.

Continuing the Mission

Today, through Donna Klein OT, PLLC, Donna provides evaluations, therapy services, parent coaching, workshops, professional mentorship, and consultation. Whether she is supporting a child, coaching a parent, mentoring a therapist, or consulting with a practice owner, her goal remains the same: to provide deeper insight, practical solutions, and a clear path forward.

Throughout her career, Donna has continually refined her clinical approach, leading to the development of The Proprioceptive Continuum™—her signature therapeutic framework designed to improve regulation, attention, motor performance, social participation, and readiness for learning through carefully graded proprioceptive activities.

Donna's mission is simple: helping children reach their fullest potential while empowering the families and professionals who support them.
